Join us in Argentina February 2012:
Big Hole Lodge is putting together a group for Argentina, tentatively scheduled for the last week in February 2012.
Here’s a quick look atthe 8 night/ 7 day fishing itinerary:
Depart the USA to Buenos Aires via overnight flight
Arrive in Buenos Aires and transfer to the hotel of your choice. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure.
Fly to Bariloche/ San Martin where you will be met and transferred to the Hosteria San Huberto. Here you will spend the next few days fishing the Rio Malleo. The Malleo is born from the clear waters of Lago Tromen and flows under the ever watchful eye of the magnificent Lanin Volcano. Long considered the crown jewel of dry fly fishing in Argentina, the Malleo offers anglers the opportunity to fish dry flies almost exclusively as the river is best known to produce excellent hatches of caddis, stoneflies and mayflies. The riffles, runs and pools hold good numbers of trout which are always looking up for an easy meal.
After breakfast you will be transferred to the Estancia Tipiliuke. Settle in and fish this afternoon. It was this river where Argentine fly fishing was born in the 1950’s through the epic takes of Jose “Bebe” Anchorena, Joe Brooks; and later, Lefty Kreh, Billy Pate and Ernie Schweibert. The riffles, runs and pools hold good numbers of brown and rainbow trout. There are good hatches of caddis, mayflies and stoneflies, and throwing a pancora crab streamer pattern and stripping it on the river bottom is never a bad way to entice a large brown. Lunch is served back at the Estancia, and afterward you will return to the river for the evening hatch
After breakfast and time for packing you will be transferred to the airport in Bariloche/ San Martin for your flight to Buenos Aires.
Day 11: Arrive back home.
